TRAVELLING TO CAMBRIDGE FROM LONDON

Cambridge city is accessible from London's three major international airports: Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted. National Express Coach Lines provides direct service from major airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted as well as London, Manchester etc ) to the Drummer Street Bus Station in Cambridge [timetables/fares] You can then take a taxi.

The economical public transportation to Cambridge from major airports or London requires a multi-part journey involving tube/train or bus and then bus or taxi.

Travel Information:

By Air London Stansted is about a 30 minute drive to Cambridge
London City and London Luton are about one hour's drive
London Heathrow and London Gatwick are about one and a half hours' drive.
To access no-frills airline at Stansted:

Ryanair: www.ryanair.com
Easyjet: http://www.easyjet.com
By Rail Cambridge is the nearest mainline station, for times please check Nationalrail: www.nationalrail.co.uk
By Road National Express: www.nationalexpress.com
There is a direct coach from Heathrow to Cambridge: single is £25.00 and return is £32.00.  They also provide services from Gatwick Airport and Standsted Airport to Cambridge.

From Heathrow

There are three ways of travelling from Heathrow to Cambridge. In increasing order of cost, these are:
1. Take the JetLink coach from the main Heathrow Bus Station, which is located in the central concourse of the airport between terminals 1, 2, and 3. If you are arriving at Terminal 4, the Cambridge coach usually leaves from bays 12-13 of the separate coach station there.

Coach is the most direct method of travel from Heathrow to Cambridge, but it can be a somewhat tedious and uncomfortable journey after a long flight. Make sure you purchase a "return" (about £26) rather than two "singles" (this would cost about £40). Waiting time: up to two hours, then three or more hours in the coach. Cost: about £26 return. Timetables are available at http://www.gobycoach.com/ or by telephoning +44-8705-808080.
2. Take the Underground ("Tube") train from Heathrow to King's Cross (5 minutes wait; about 50 minutes journey time), and then the WAGN train from King's Cross to Cambridge (no more than 30 minutes wait; about 60 minutes journey time).

Depending on the time of day, the tube can be crowded and you may not get a seat. Total journey time: two to two and a half hours. Cost: about £28 return. WAGN timetables are available at http://www.rail.co.uk/ukrail/planner/planner.htm or by phoning +44-8457-484950.
3. Take the Heathrow Express mainline train from Heathrow to Paddington (no more than 15 minutes wait; 15 minutes journey time). Then take the eastbound Circle Line Underground ("Tube") to King's Cross (15 minutes). Then take the WAGN train from King's Cross to Cambridge (details as above).

This is the fastest, most comfortable route but also the most expensive. Total journey time: one and a half to two hours. Cost: about £40 return.
Taxis are prohibitively expensive (£90 - £130) and would take at least three hours.

From Gatwick
There are two main ways of getting from Gatwick to Cambridge.
1. Take the Jetlink coach from Gatwick to Cambridge.
2. Take the Gatwick Express to Victoria. Take the Victoria Line Tube to King's Cross. From there take the WAGN train to Cambridge (details above).
As with travel from Heathrow, taxis are prohibitively expensive. Costs and journey times would be similar to Heathrow.

From Stansted
Cambridge is just 25 miles north of Stansted airport. It can be easily reached from there by bus, train, or taxi.
1. Several buses, including the X6, run between Stansted and Cambridge. The information desk at the airport will provide information about timetables and where to catch buses. Buses run somewhat less frequently than the train but are possibly marginally cheaper.
2. The rail station is beneath the airport. Trains run roughly hourly from Stansted to Cambridge. Timetable information is available by phoning +44-8457-484950 or at: http://www.rail.co.uk/ukrail/planner/planner.htm. Cost is £7-00 single, £13-30 return.
3. Stansted Airport Limited has appointed a single private hire company, "Airport Carz", to operate taxis from Stansted. Bookings can be made at their desk on the international arrivals concourse. Cars are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is the most expensive way of getting to Cambridge (around £30). Travel can sometimes be slow during rush hour.
