What is Quantum™ R-PE MESF?
- Quantum™ R-PE MESF is a kit of calibrated fluorescent microbeads whose intensity is expressed in MESF (Molecules of Equivalent Soluble Fluorochrome).
- This means that each bead population corresponds to a known amount of equivalent soluble fluorochrome, enabling absolute quantification of fluorescence.
- The fluorochrome used is:
- R-phycoerythrin (R-PE) widely used for cell labeling in flow cytometry.
- Main Purpose
- This product is used to:
- ✔ Standardize fluorescence intensity between instruments
- ✔ Convert cytometer signals into quantitative MESF units
- ✔ Measure the true expression level of cellular markers
- ✔ Verify instrument linearity and sensitivity
- In practice, the beads are analyzed together with samples to generate a fluorescence → MESF calibration curve, which is then used to quantify cells.
- Kit Composition
- A typical Quantum MESF kit contains:
1 population of non-fluorescent beads (blank)
4 fluorescent bead populations with increasing intensity
Microbeads approximately 7–9 µm in diameter (similar in size to human lymphocytes)
Measured fluorescence of calibrated microbeads
Fluorescence of the pure fluorochrome
Conversion of the instrument signal into MESF
1 mL (~20 tests)
5 mL (~100 tests)
14 mL (~280 tests)
❄ Do not freeze
Each population has a certified MESF value.
Scientific Principle
The system is based on direct comparison between:
Result: absolute and reproducible quantification of cellular fluorescence.
